From the 3^rd to 4^th November 2009 the Institute of Transportation Training of the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR), Training Command – Military Academy (TC – MA), organized a conference on the Accident Prevention in the Department of the Ministry of Defence. The conference focused on accident prevention, efficiency of the professional training of military drivers and the utilization of the electronic systems for safe use of vehicles. At the conference assisted representatives of the Armed Forces Personnel, representatives of specialized facilities dealing with safety of traffic of individual departments as well as civilian professionals.

The conference was introduced by Colonel GS Jaromír Zůna, TC – MA Commander, who evaluated significance of the conference for increasing safe use of both military and private vehicles and for deeper cooperation among conference participants from the department of the Ministry of Defence and public schools, institutions and specialized facilities. His words confirmed Colonel Petr Křížek, Head of Operations Service of the ACR. Praising the conference for its contribution to the decrease of accident prevention in the ACR, he emphasized that the main cause of this decrease is not the technical conditions of vehicles, but the human factor. During single speeches innovative approaches for possible solution of the traffic safety issues in the field of human factor, vehicle features and conditions of communications over land were introduced.

During the conference there was a presentation of guide surface to train coping with road crisis situations, demonstration of trainers and simulators to model crisis situations while driving vehicles as well as an introduction of electronic devices to control efficiency and safe use of military vehicles.
The conclusions and recommendations drawn from the conference for the activity of the department of the Ministry of Defence regard implementation of National Safe Traffic Strategy to the ACR conditions, formation of the focal point for safe traffic, efficiency of professional training by means of special driving lessons in a corresponding training base and implementation of pragmatic and preventive operations focusing on safe traffic.

All the participants express their interest in further cooperation in solving of concrete tasks and projects which will contribute to improvement of drivers` training as well as to the safe military vehicles traffic. With regard to complexity and constant topicality of the discussed issues, the participants expressed their need for another similar conference which will be held next year.
