Basic training

Basic training is an initial stage which includes both training and education of a soldier in the active service within the Army of the Czech Republic. The usually three-month basic training is divided into several phases. A soldier learns the basic skills necessary for survival in a battlefield and for combat, and gains physical and mental prerequisites for carrying out duties in active service.

Basic training shapes the soldier’s character traits, determination to win and combat readiness, which all create prerequisites for successful task accomplishment of an individual and the lowest unit. Here, a soldier must obtain not only the necessary knowledge, skills and habits, but also the conviction and the will to accomplish even the most demanding tasks.

Professional training:

The training towards meeting the qualification requirements is realised within career, specialist, specialised and special training. This training focuses on acquiring qualifications necessary for each systemised job position.

Professional training is a training which focuses on meeting the qualification requirements for carrying out a particular job position.

Professional training is meant to fulfil:

  • basic qualification requirements in the form of career training
  • specialist job requirements in the form of specialist, specialised and special training.
  • specific job requirements in the form of targeted training
  • language requirements in the form of language courses.

Career training is organised to meet the basic qualification requirements for a soldier’s particular job position. This training has a general theme which is common to all members of the rank corps or rank group.

Specialist training is designed to acquire knowledge, skills and habits necessary for service at a given job position within set specialist requirements at a particular rank corps (e.g. general artillery, signaler or chemist’s training).

Specialized training is aimed at gaining knowledge, skills and habits needed for a service at a given job position within a given specialization at a particular rank corps (e.g. training for operation of a weapon system).

Special training is aimed at gaining knowledge, skills and habits needed for a service at a given job position regardless of the acquired specialization or expertise (e.g. safety management, blasting for non-engineering specializations, driving competence etc.)

Targeted training is organized for commanders and members of the staff units, who are preparing to participate in overseas operations, and for individuals who are being sent to observation missions or to NATO, EU and UN structures.

Language training is aimed to fulfill qualification requirements in terms of a foreign language. The preferred language is English. French, as a second official language of NATO, and German are also most frequently taught languages.
